Audi TT Mk2 Bose Amplifier Repairs
International postal repair service for Bose car amplifiers
This 8 channel DSP amplifier can be found in all variants of MK2 TT’s from 2006 onwards. It’s easily identifiable as being fitted to the car as the speaker grilles have the ‘Bose’ emblem on them. Each channel has a max 40 watt output, the sub-woofer output rated at 80 watts (4 ohm). The total max output is 360 watts.
No VIN coding – although variables are set for cloth / leather interior
All repaired units are now updated ( free of charge ) to the latest and last version of software – we’ve also added a few tweeks to give a better and stronger Bass – with also a sharper and more defined top end.
Popular online discussion threads try to explain that condensation builds up inside the casing causing corrosion to the circuit board. We don’t agree with this – all the evidence points to a gap in the inner wing seam, the rear wheels at speed force road water through a gap .
Every single unit that comes in to us for repair has tiny bits of grit trapped in the heat sink compound on the amplifier modules. Images below are what we typically find, condensation is pure water and doesn’t contain grit. And to make matters worse, the road grit also contains salt which accelerates the corrosion process.
Diagnosis
Problems with the amplifier are usually characterised by speaker failure, be it one or all of the speakers. The head unit rarely fails, although you can get issues with the iPod adaptor (when fitted).
2006 to 2017 MK2 Audi TT Amplifier
First of all the unit is disassembled and inspected and also electrically tested on our jig. The board is then cleaned of all corrosion and the factory applied protective coating is removed. The board is inspected in closer detail.
We use factory sourced production line components to ensure the sound quality is as precise as a Bose should be.
Finally, once assembled – the unit is reprogrammed and updated
Lastly we coat the unit with a hard plastic sealer – we do this to protect the circuit board and modules , this won’t make the unit completely waterproof but it does give the delicate parts excellent protection against water / salt.
Occasionally we see units that are beyond repair , this happens when one or more output modules fails to a dead short across the supply rail . As there are no fuses in the unit , the circuit tracks superheat causing the board to burn out – sometimes even catch fire.
It is not possible to repair or safe to attempt a repair when this happens – the fibreglass circuit board becomes conductive potentially causing a fire.
Audi TT Amplifier removal is fairly straight forward and should only take around 10 minutes.
